Affirmations to Cope with Relationship Worry

Talking yourself down when you’re worried your relationship is doomed can be challenging. And focusing on the positive, when things are actually bad, isn’t super believable.

So what works? First, breathe. Take full, deep breaths (this activates your vagus nerve) and repeat after me:

  • My relationship is important to me. I’m allowed to be distressed.

  • I’m a whole human outside of my relationship.

  • I don’t have to believe the stories my brain is telling me.

  • I am in control of how I respond to my anxiety.

  • I am dysregulated. That’s all that’s happening.

  • I can breathe through discomfort.

  • I am willing to accept my distress.

  • I am uncomfortable but not in danger.

  • I will care for my discomfort rather than fight it.

  • I can worry and still engage meaningfully in my life.

  • I will exhale stress.

  • I have tools to manage anxiety.

  • It will be what it will be and I will cope.

  • Conflict is not the same as rejection/abandonment.

  • Feeling unlovable does not mean I am unlovable.

  • I am a queen.
